Now comes the part most people want to get right: knowing exactly what to pack, how to prepare your devices, and how to drop the bag off without any hassle. This guide walks you through everything that happens after the bag arrives, so you can go from mailbox to drop-off with confidence. If you have not ordered yours yet, head to our product page first!

How to deposit your TakeBag

Follow these simple steps at your nearest Pick! locker.

Gather Your E-Waste

Before you start packing, do a proper sweep of your home. The devices that belong in a TakeBag are usually scattered across a few spots:

  • The tech drawer: old phones, tangled cables, chargers for devices you no longer own
  • A shelf or cabinet: old laptops, tablets, portable speakers, handheld consoles
  • The bathroom or bedroom: electric shavers, hair straighteners, old electric toothbrush heads
  • Kitchen drawers: remote controls, calculators, small electronic gadgets
  • The living room: power banks, webcams, wireless mice and keyboards

Gather everything in one spot before you start packing. It is faster, and you are less likely to miss something.

Back Up Anything You Want to Keep

For any device that holds data, take a few minutes to back up before it goes in the bag. This means:

  • Photos, videos, and voice recordings
  • Contacts and calendar data
  • App data, saved passwords, or authenticator apps that need to be migrated
  • Documents stored locally on a laptop or tablet

Transfer files to a new device, an external drive, or cloud storage. Check your Downloads folder and Desktop on laptops, as these are the spots most people forget.

Tip: For iPhones, turn off Find My iPhone before recycling. For Android devices, remove your Google account under Settings before the factory reset.

Wipe Your Devices

Run a factory reset on every device that held personal data before it goes into the bag. Here is how to do it on each platform:

  • Android: Settings > General Management > Reset > Factory Data Reset
  • iPhone: Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Erase All Content and Settings
  • Windows laptop: Settings > System > Recovery > Reset this PC
  • Mac: System Settings > General > Transfer or Reset > Erase All Content and Settings

Important: a factory reset removes your file references but does not fully erase the underlying data. It is a good first step, but it is not sufficient on its own. Every device collected through TakeBag goes through certified data destruction at KGS's Tuas facility, which makes recovery genuinely impossible. The factory reset is your first layer of protection. KGS handles the rest.

Pack Your TakeBag

Once your devices are wiped, pack them into your TakeBag. A few things to keep in mind:

What to remove before packing

  • SIM cards and external SD cards from phones and tablets. These should be kept or returned to your telco
  • Any cases or screen protectors you want to keep

What to leave inside devices

  • Batteries: leave them inside their devices rather than removing them

Loose AA, AAA, or coin cell batteries should be placed in a small sealed bag before going into the TakeBag. For large quantities of loose batteries, check our battery recycling guide for the best drop-off options.

Packing tips

  • Coil cables loosely, as tight coils take up more space than you need
  • Wrap cracked screens or loose components in a cloth or newspaper to protect other items
  • Pack heavier items like laptops at the bottom, lighter accessories on top

Find Your Nearest PICK! Locker and Book Your Slot

Scan the QR code on your TakeBag to start the booking process, or visit the PICK! locker locator at picknetwork.com to browse locations near you. Filter by return-eligible to see lockers that accept TakeBag drop-offs.

PICK! lockers are located at HDB void decks, MRT stations, shopping malls, community clubs, and supermarkets across Singapore. With over 1,100 locations islandwide, there is almost certainly one within a few minutes of your home.

Once you confirm your booking, you have seven days to complete the drop-off. You will receive a confirmation with your locker details.

Tip: Download the PICK! app before you go. It shows you whether lockers at a location are close to being full, so you can plan ahead and avoid a wasted trip.

Drop Off Your Bag

Head to your chosen PICK! locker location. When you arrive:

  1. Open your assigned compartment using the QR code from your confirmation message or by entering your booking reference on the locker screen.
  2. Place your TakeBag inside and close the compartment door firmly until you hear it click.
  3. You are done. The entire drop-off takes about two minutes.

If the locker you head to is full, make your way to the next nearest PICK! locker location. The PICK! app will help you check availability before you leave home.

What Happens After Drop-Off?

Your TakeBag is collected from the locker and brought to KGS's NEA-licensed facility in Tuas. Every device is sorted, and any item that held personal data goes through certified destruction before anything else happens. Recoverable materials including aluminium, copper, lithium, and cobalt are extracted and reused. Nothing recyclable goes to landfill.

You do not need to follow up or track the bag after drop-off. Once it is in the locker, the rest is handled. You will receive an email acknowledgement when your TakeBag has been picked up and is being processed at KGS's recycling facility, so you will know exactly when your e-waste is on its way to being responsibly recycled.

Terms & Conditions – “How Many KGS?” E-Waste Month Campaign

1. Organiser

This campaign is organised by KGS Pte Ltd (“KGS”), Singapore.

2. Campaign Period

  • Start Date: 1st February 2026
  • End Date: 30th June 2026 (Extended Date)
  • All TakeBags must be ordered and dropped off within this period to qualify.

3. Eligibility

  • Open and exclusive to only residents of Clementi Division.
  • Employees of KGS and their immediate family members are eligible to participate but are not eligible to win prizes.
  • Participation is free and subject to the availability of TakeBags.

4. How to Participate

  1. Order a TakeBag: Visit https://takebag.kgs.com.sg to get your free TakeBag.
  2. Fill It Up: Place your unused or broken electronic items (e-waste), such as cables, phones, chargers, laptops, power banks, and other small electronics into the TakeBag.
  3. Drop It Off: Deposit your filled TakeBag at any official Pick! locker or designated KGS collection point before the campaign deadline.
  4. Weighing & Recording: Each TakeBag will be weighed by KGS staff. The total weight will be recorded under your order number. (Note: 1 = 1kg)
  5. Leaderboard Tracking: A live leaderboard will display the top entries, updated periodically.

5. Prize Mechanics

  • Top 3 participants with the heaviest TakeBag at the end of the campaign will win exclusive prizes: Prizes will be revealed at a later date on our official Instagram page: @kgs.singapore.
  • Each participant is eligible to win one prize only. No overlaps will be allowed.

6. Important Rules

  • Valid E-Waste Only: Contents must consist of electronic items (e.g., phones, laptops, batteries, chargers, cables, hard drives). Bags containing non-electronic waste will be disqualified.
  • Unlimited Bags = One Email Account:
    Each email account that drops off a TakeBag will be counted as one entry. Participants may order up to 2 bags per order.
  • Integrity Check: KGS reserves the right to inspect bag contents. Bags containing irrelevant, hazardous, liquid, or prohibited materials will be disqualified.
  • Final Weights: All weights are recorded by KGS staff using calibrated equipment. The recorded weight is final.
  • Ownership Transfer: By dropping off your TakeBag, you agree that all items become the property of KGS for responsible recycling or disposal. Items will not be returned.

7. Winner Announcement

  • Winners will be announced on KGS official social media channels and contacted via the email or phone number provided during TakeBag ordering.
  • Prizes must be collected within 30 days of notification. If a prize is not claimed within this period, it may be forfeited and awarded to the next eligible participant.

8. General Terms

  • KGS reserves the right to amend, extend, or terminate the campaign at any time without prior notice.
  • KGS is not responsible for: Delays in TakeBag drop-offs due to locker or courier issues.
  • Damage or loss of TakeBags during transit.
  • Technical errors affecting leaderboard updates.
  • KGS’s decision on all matters relating to the campaign is final and binding.
  • By participating, you agree to allow KGS to use your name, photos, and TakeBag weight results for promotional purposes.

9. Privacy & Data Protection

Personal information collected will only be used for the administration of this campaign, and for marketing purposes by KGS and its affiliated entities. Information will not be shared with unauthorised third parties.
